Shop or Store?

Retail sales are made in a store while services are performed in a shop. As locksmiths, we provide services to the public. Whether we are installing deadbolts or duplicating a key, the reason customers come to a locksmith is to utilize our services. Retail sales are secondary within our trade, needed primarily to support the delivery of our services.

A key blank is a pretty useless item unless our services use it to create a useful key for a customer, and our skills with a key machine are not of value if a key blank is not available to work our magic upon.

Visitors to a locksmith have been known to ask many questions about securing their properties. What kind of locks best fit their needs? Which ones hold up best under what conditions? Then they go to the local hardware outlet to make their purchases. If these same people decide that they require the services of a locksmith, they will purchase a ‘package’ deal of hardware and installation, but the do-it-yourselfer will want to purchase the hardware at the lowest possible cost.
