(PRWEB) Detex Corporation has made available an exclusive advancement in access control panic devices. Where security is a high priority for protection of patients and employees, the patented Detex Delayed Egress/Latch Retraction device integrates both functions in one device for more efficient operation.

This design is well-suited to department routines – for example, controlling access to surgical suites from holding areas, or restricting entry to nursery areas or pharmacy facilities. They also appreciate the smooth pushpad, which doesn’t snag on clothing or equipment.

Since everything is contained in the rim device, so there are fewer components to install, and fewer to malfunction and affect performance. Operation is simple: for authorized personnel, the latch retraction operates with the access control system, bypassing delayed egress to allow exit and entry without sounding the alarm. But unauthorized entry triggers a 100dB alarm and keeps the door locked for 15 seconds, allowing time for staff to respond. A fire alarm input provides life safety override for immediate exit during a fire emergency.

Detex is known internationally for life safety and security door hardware, loss prevention and architectural hardware, integrated door security systems, and guard tour verification. For more information about the Delayed Egress/Latch Retraction device, visit Detex.com/EEXER or email marketing(at)detex(dot)com.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) In the wake of recent school shootings such as the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, school officials and homeowners have been looking for ways to keep intruders out. Jordan Frankel, also known as the Security Sensei, states that the upcoming commercial version of the OnGARD security door brace will do just that- prevent access to the classrooms by active shooters, probably saving countless lives.

“Seconds count when the police are minutes away,” says Frankel. He recommends that schools use the OnGARD door brace in violent situations to keep students out of the line of fire. It can withstand violent blows and resist an astonishing 1800 pounds of force.

These days, a deadbolt simply is not enough. If a standard door with a deadbolt were attacked with a sledge hammer or even worse fired upon, the deadbolt could easily be defeated because the door itself would crack or the deadbolt could fail under the intense pressure. Unlike a deadbolt- the OnGARD door brace is not physically attached to the door. The OnGARD is completely independent of the door and is mounted to the floor behind the door. The bottom plate of the OnGARD can screw directly into the concrete of any property making the OnGARD virtually impossible to defeat.

“Some security professionals focus on costly high tech devices such as remote panic buttons, electronic locks and sophisticated surveillance systems, but in reality that technology can’t – and won’t – stop a gunman from entering the class room environment,” Frankel says. But the affordable OnGARD door brace prevents the classroom door from being opened and denies an offender access to the students inside.

The OnGARD has been successfully used in home security for years to defend against violent home invasions and door kicks. The new commercial version of the OnGARD door brace is beveled on all four sides. This means whether the door contains a threshold, or is inward or outward swinging, walkers will not trip over the floor plate. The bottom plate is angled in such a way that a heel or toes will not get caught on the bottom plate.

In addition, the OnGARD door brace is constructed of a space-age polymer that will never rust or corrode and it is sold with a lifetime warranty. It can also be easily installed by a maintenance person in less than 15 minutes. Find out more about the OnGARD on the Security Sensei’s website.

Carmel, IN (Von Duprin) For facilities in code-driven regions and humid, salty and high wind conditions, such as outdoor venues, coastal buildings or wet environments including pools, aquariums, water parks and zoos that require extra protection, Von Duprin has brought together a suite of products that assure buildings remain safe and secure. Products include coatings that inhibit rust and those that are designed, tested and certified to WS9827/9927 and 237 standards, which both meet the FEMA 361 and 320 building codes for windstorm resistance.

“Harsh environments can damage exit devices and other door hardware quickly, whether the abuse comes from salt, water or excessive winds,” explains Joseph Vaida, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, portfolio marketing manager-mechanical. “For these applications, the same door hardware that’s used in one place in the facility may not be appropriate for areas that needed to fight these harsh conditions. Therefore, Von Duprin offers this suite of hardware to fight abusive elements.”

Exit devices exposed to extreme conditions and weather need additional protection against the elements. For these applications, Von Duprin can apply a clear protective coating to the exterior and interior of an exit device’s mechanical parts to help prevent the effects of weather or chemical corrosion, extending the life of the device. This clear protective coating improves chemical and corrosion resistance and additionally provides antimicrobial protection.

Exit devices on the exterior of a building are often exposed to the weather. Humidity and heavy rain can find its way into the exit device and cause electronics to malfunction. By water-proofing switches, designed to function safely in humid or wet conditions, Von Duprin helps prevent the effects of humidity and rain.

Exit devices mounted to exterior doors are often exposed to rain and other elements. Water enters the exit device and causes critical components to potentially rust or function improperly. Von Duprin can add drainage holes to assure exterior exit devices don’t hold water in the mechanism case and rust the mechanics. These drainage holes let water leave the exit device and are essential for products mounted on exterior doors to deliver long-lasting functionality and durability.

Severe wind and tornadoes requires a safe and secure shelter. Such extreme conditions require specialized testing to both the exit device and the total opening. Von Duprin offers certified and tested products to help keep people safe in the event of an environmental incident, providing superior protection from severe weather. FEMA- and ICC-compliant, reinforced components help secure the building and its occupants from wind and debris. Harsh environment exit devices are certified for hurricane and tornado resistant applications.

“For a long lasting doorway that will endure through some of the harshest conditions, Von Duprin products with these harsh environment options are what facility managers challenged by such applications need,” adds Vaida. “It’s imperative that integrators and their customers specify door hardware that matches the need of each and every access point.”

The harsh environment suite of Von Duprin door hardware is available now.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM–(Marketwire) - Burglary is an unfortunate fact of life and can be financially and emotionally devastating for homeowners and their families. Yet most burglaries tend to be opportunistic rather than pre-planned, meaning that implementing the most simple measures can help to deter criminals away from your home.

Common Sense

Keeping a spare key in a plant pot may seem like a handy back-up plan, but professional burglars know all of your hiding places. Make sure you store your keys away from the front or back door and keep any spare car keys in a concealed place. It’s also important to remove temptation; keep valuables out of sight of the windows and make sure they are all closed and locked securely when you leave the house.

Locks

British Standard locks on all of your doors and windows are extremely important and are usually a requirement for your home insurance. If your door security is found to be inadequate, you won’t be able to reclaim the cost of an emergency locksmith or other repairs. If you live in a block of flats with a secure communal door it’s still important to upgrade your main front door to the British Standard.

Security Lights

Dark doorways and shadowy gardens make great hiding places for an opportunistic burglar. Cheap security lights are readily available from hardware shops and are easy to fit yourself. More expensive sensor lights will draw attention to any thieves watching your home, but are usually mains operated and need to be installed by a qualified electrician.

Cameras and Alarms

Video cameras will provide you with useful evidence after a theft, but they can also help prevent the crime in the first place. If you do have an alarm or cameras make sure you clearly display signs to let criminals know that they are being watched. The Metropolitan police also advise homeowners without an alarm to invest in a dummy alarm box to deter opportunistic thieves.

Deception

Put yourself in the place of a potential burglar; what type of property would be easiest to target? An unoccupied one of course. Before going away for an extended period, cancel all deliveries to stop post and milk piling up in the doorway. Install plug timers to switch on lights and radios at random periods to create the illusion that someone is at home.
